“You are my hiding place; You preserve me from trouble; You surround me with songs of deliverance. Selah.” Psalm 32:7 (NAS)
A young man was taking a walk on a beautiful day when suddenly a storm appeared at once! At a distance he saw a building that could provide shelter from the stormy wind and tempest. His initial reaction could have been to inspect the building to see if it would provide sufficient shelter; but no, instead of debating the issue, he ran hurriedly into the building. The shelter was a potential hiding place before; but it was his hiding place only until he ran into it and was safe.
God didn’t say that he would shield you from times of trouble and distress. Nor did he suggest that he would build an impenetrable garrison around your mind. He will preserve you during times of trouble not protect you from it. You’ll suffer tribulation and through it enter the kingdom. You’ll experience the heat of persecution and the humiliation of an unwise decision that has risen from its shallow grave but you shall not be overwhelmed because the Lord has promised to preserve you.
God will give you an abundance of reasons for praise and thankfulness. He will surround you with songs of praise for deliverance out of the hands of your enemies. He will surround you with songs of compassion when you’re bruised inwardly, songs of healing when your body is ailing and songs of encouragement during times of deflation.
Where do you run when the tempestuous storms of life threaten to destroy your foundation? To whom do you talk to when you learn your child has made a decision that will permanently alter the course of their life? What avenues do you explore when the prognosis of your health offers no hope?
If Jesus is the balm in Gilead, apply the remedy. If He is the pearl of great price, sell all that you have and purchase it. If He is the hiding-place, run to him and be safe. There will be no peace in your mind until He’s your hiding-place; no contentment in life until He’s your hiding-place; no wells of living water flowing into the parched areas of your life until He is your hiding-place. He will protect you during times of trouble and deliver you from the snare of the fowler. Run to him…He’s waiting to be your hiding place.
