BlackandChristian.com is an informational and inspirational resource for the African and African American Christian community and others interested in the African and African American religious experience.

Launched at the end of February, 2000 BlackandChristian.com has quietly gone about building a community of loyal and faithful followers. Founder, Jacqueline Trussell, a 1998 graduate of Harvard Divinity School, describes her strategy for building this online community. "I decided to concentrate my efforts during these past few months with building a community, link by link...that is, making sure that BlackandChristian.com is listed in major search engines, particularly Yahoo and that we are linked on as many other websites as possible." It seems to be working.

Not only do African American Christians visit the site, but visitors have come from various parts of Africa, Germany, Australia, Japan and Korea. "We have touched the world as we strive to promote the 'good news' of the African and African American religious community," said Trussell.

Trussell's academic background is partially responsible for her interest in, "bridging the gap between the Pulpit, the Pew and the Academy." A highlight of the site is the black church history section and the On the Continent page with resources from and for the African Christian community.

The internet has many resources for Christians but very few speak to the black religious community. "That is why," Trussell said, "we are a voice for the African American Christian community." Although the site is based in Chicago, it has a national and international focus.

BlackandChristian.com is designed by Trussell's son, Bryan a stay at home dad. The mother and son team brought the site to life. Bryan's wife, Chanel, is now handling Sales and Marketing duties.

"In the short time that we have been around and with very little money, we have made an impact. All we need now is an angel, who believes in what we are doing and sees the value in the community we are trying to serve," Trussell stated.

BlackandChristian.com features articles, events, news, a black church directory and original contributions. Trussell concluded, "We constantly add resources for clergy, congregations, theologians, students and the public in general. It's really been a walk of faith and belief that this venture is ordained of God."
